The first ever Mahila gram sabha of the Chinchinim village panchayat held on Sunday has demanded 33 per cent reservation for women in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

The Mahila gram sabha of the Chinchinim village panchayat was held at the initiative of Sarpanch Frank Viegas along with panch members.

The Mahila gram sabha was chaired by Deputy Sarpanch Sharmila Gracias, along with women panch members Ivy Ferrao, Joycee Alisha Rebello, and Ritisha Gonsalves.

During the sabha, women participants voiced strong and meaningful demands centered on empowerment, safety, and welfare. After much discussion on a host of issues affecting women and the society, the Mahila gram sabha resolved to demand 33 per cent reservation for women in the Legislative Assembly.

In another resolution, the gram sabha has called for stronger measures against domestic violence and greater support mechanism for affected women.

The meeting also adopted a resolution demanding mandatory tenant verification and regular police patrolling to enhance community security. A resolution on reversal of the recent electricity bill hike, which has imposed a financial strain on families, was also adopted at the meeting.

The meeting further demanded creation of a dedicated space for self-help groups (SHGs) to market and sell their products, fostering women’s entrepreneurship and self-reliance. The panchayat has assured that all resolutions passed during the sabha will be duly communicated to the concerned departments for necessary action.
