Experts in the field have said that the Kolhapur Cancer Centre has emerged as an excellent treatment option for cancer patients from Goa.

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on advanced cancer treatments was recently held successfully in Goa.

The event, jointly organised by Kolhapur Cancer Centre, Cancer Centers of America, and the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Margao, took place on Friday at Hotel Nanutel, Margao.

World-renowned cancer specialist and robotic surgeon Dr Suraj Pawar, along with the entire Kolhapur Cancer Centre team, attended the programme. They shared information about robotic surgery, advanced radiation machines, and free cancer treatment available to Goan patients under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Scheme.

Dr Pawar highlighted that the brachytherapy treatment offered at Kolhapur Cancer Centre is especially beneficial for cervical cancer patients — a procedure rarely available in Goa or western Maharashtra.

He further announced that from next month, Goan patients will be able to avail PET scan facilities at concessional rates at the Kolhapur Cancer Centre.

Dr Pawar also stated that the Centre has successfully treated over 50,000 patients so far, including 27,000 surgeries, 15,000 radiation therapies, and 22,000 chemotherapy sessions.

More than 105 medical professionals from the Margao area attended the CME. The event was organised by IMA Margao President Dr Suraj Prabhudesai, Secretary Dr Saharsh Thorwat, and Treasurer Dr Ankush Patil.

Representing Kolhapur Cancer Centre and Cancer Centers of America, Dr Suraj Pawar, Dr Yogesh Anap, Dr Prasad Tanawade, Dr Navnath Dhone, Dr Aditi Saha, Dr Avinash Anand, and Dr Praveen Adusumilli participated in the session.
