The Assagao panchayat has made it clear that no dance bars or clubs of any kind are allowed in the village.

Addressing a news conference in the panchayat office on Saturday, Sarpanch Hanumant Naik stated that if anyone has doubts about this, they could confirm the same under Right to Information.

“Some people are claiming that night clubs have been allowed in the village. In this regard, misinformation is also going on by holding meetings at various places. In May last year, a businessman had demanded permission for the construction of a bar and restaurant in Munangwada. Accordingly, the Panchayat allowed only construction of the bar and restaurant,” said Naik.

“The construction was allowed only till March 31, 2024. Meanwhile, the owner had made a written request to withdraw the permission given by the panchayat. Therefore, no further action was taken by the panchayat. All documents in this regard are available in the Panchayat office.”

Panch member Venkatesh Govekar appealed to land owners not to sell their properties to foreigners.

Others present at the news conference included Panchas Sonia Naik, Raghoba Kamble, Walter Brito, Ashwini Pokhre and Tanya Gaonkar.
