SANGUEM
A youth in his late forties from Curchorem is feared to have drowned after allegedly jumping off the Sanvordem bridge into the Zuari River on Saturday afternoon, triggering an extensive search operation by emergency services.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the afternoon when the man—believed to be a resident living about a kilometre from the spot—reportedly jumped into the river while waving his hand. The act was noticed by passersby, who immediately alerted the police and fire brigade.
Fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene and launched a search operation that continued for several hours. Despite sustained efforts throughout the afternoon and into the evening, the man could not be traced. Officials also deployed sonar equipment in an attempt to locate him, but without success.
Authorities have informed the Deputy Collector of Sanguem, and additional assistance has been sought to intensify the search efforts. Sources indicated that if the ongoing operation does not yield results, help from navy divers may be requisitioned.
