I wish to draw attention to a commendable recent step taken by the Government, which has brought much-needed relief to owners and occupiers of houses in Panchayat areas undertaking repair work.
For far too long, residents have suffered at the hands of some village panchayat secretaries and ward members, who harass applicants to grant approvals or process applications for house repairs. This misuse of authority not only delayed much-needed repair work but also caused mental and financial distress to common citizens. The Government's intervention in curbing such extortionary practices is a welcome move. By removing unnecessary hurdles and reducing the discretionary power of local officials, this step ensures that citizens can carry out repairs without fear of harassment or exploitation. I hope this measure is implemented effectively across all panchayats and that strict action is taken against those who continue to misuse their positions. Transparency and accountability at the grassroots level are crucial for the success of rural development.
