The dramatic defection of 7 AAP Rajya Sabha MPs has brought into sharp focus the anti-defection law or rather the loopholes over the decades, many politicians have manipulated to their advantage. The evil of political defection has been a matter of national concern. Politicians switching parties in politics is not new. They change parties more often that we change our phone wallpapers. When politicians see better opportunities or benefits like power, position and financial gains they switch parties like employees switch companies. Such actions undermine voter trust and abandon the promises made on a specific party manifesto, reducing political ideology to a mere label. And such behaviour is described as 'Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram' politics, causes political instability and erodes voter trust and they feel betrayed. It questions trust and accountability.
