What will the proposed third district be called?

The state cabinet on Friday reportedly approved the proposal for the creation of a third district consisting of Sanguem, Dharbandora, Quepem and Canacona. All the four talukas are part of the South Goa District which will now comprise of Mormugao, Salcete and Ponda talukas. All the four talukas in the third district are Schedule Tribes (ST) populated and this move will enable the authorities to give them better services. It is learnt that headquarters of the new district is proposed to be set up at Curchorem. As the two existing districts in the state are North Goa and South Goa districts, it remains to be seen what the third district will be called. Obviously it cannot be called as the ‘third district’ just like there is the third umpire in a cricket match. Can it be called the ‘Central District’? Be that as it may, it would be in the fitness of things to have the headquarters of the third district at Quepem instead of Curchorem. Quepem is centrally located and hence would be more convenient. Has politics played a role in naming Curchorem as the headquarters instead of Quepem?
