Tiatr is a unique 130-year-old Goan Konkani musical theatre that blends drama, comedy, and “kantars” (songs) to highlight social issues. In the past, Tiatr performances were community events held in village panchayat areas during local feasts, Carnival, and ward celebrations. They brought people together and strengthened a sense of unity and cultural pride. More than just entertainment, Tiatr has played an important role in keeping the Konkani language alive and has provided a platform for talented directors, musicians, artists, and singers to showcase their skills. Our Chandor parish continues to keep this valued tradition alive. Villagers eagerly support Tiatr by buying tickets and enjoying these performances with friends, neighbours, and family. Local groups also work hard to bring Tiatr shows to village panchayat areas, helping this vibrant art form to grow and continue. Tiatr remains a strong symbol of Goan culture and community spirit, and it deserves ongoing support and appreciation.
