Mormugao shows way in women empowerment

Kudos to the Mormugao Municipality for coming up with a novel idea in women empowerment. In a first-of-its-kind step to empower women and promote self-reliance, the Mormugao Municipal Council will reportedly launch a special Sunday Bazaar exclusively for women. This will give women a platform to showcase and sell homemade food, handicrafts and decorative items. It needs to be noted that women often cannot afford to take up stalls and shops on rent. Women make sweets, candles, cakes, chocolates, handicrafts, etc. but their talent remains hidden. Women empowerment is the process of enabling women to exercise their rights, make their own choices, and participate fully in all aspects of life by ensuring equality and financial independence.  Women empowerment needs to also include women with little or no education and housewives who many a times are neglected. True women empowerment also contributes to the prosperity of society. This Sunday Bazaar in Vasco could be a place where citizens can get authentic Goan homemade products at an affordable price. This novel idea needs to be tried out by other municipal bodies in the state as well.
