Meter readers face danger from ferocious pet dogs

The Electricity Department estimates that around 40,000 domestic electricity meters are located inside homes, making them inaccessible for staff tasked with recording readings. Consumers have been given a deadline of 28 November to shift these meters outside or face disconnection. However, even external meters pose challenges, as staff often encounter hostile pet dogs. There have been several instances of meter readers, both electricity and water, being attacked by ferocious dogs while attempting to take readings. Even if meters are outside, unleashed dogs within the compound can threaten staff safety. In such cases, readers may leave without recording the reading. Citizens are urged to ensure their dogs are leashed during visits to avoid such risks and ensure accurate billing.
