SSC exam dates should not clash with festivities

The SSC (Class X) Public Examination of March 2025 conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education commenced on March 1 and will go on till March 21. A total of 18,871 students which includes regular and fresh candidates are reportedly answering this examination. But what comes as a surprise is the commencement of these important examinations has coincided with the Carnival festivities in the state. The Carnival celebrations will be a distraction for the students who have to study/revise for the examination. The Carnival festivities will be followed by Ash Wednesday which is a day of obligation for the Catholic community. Candidates are advised to be present at the examination centre at least 45 minutes in advance before the commencement of the exams which begin at 9.30 am. Given the heavy rush witnessed during the Carnival celebrations, with tourists visiting the state in hordes, there will be traffic congestion on the roads which will add to the inconvenience of the students.  It would be in the fitness of things for the authorities concerned to take into consideration the festivals before choosing the exam dates in future.
