Doctors our real heroes

SUKHANAND SARDESAI, by email | SEPTEMBER 21, 2020, 11:27 PM IST

It is a pity to see that doctors who are the main warriors on the Covid front are being ill-treated by patients, their relatives and even the government.

If ministers or MLAs get affected with the virus, they are treated like VIPs but on the other hand if a doctor contracts the virus he has no option but to stay at the over-crowded government hospitals.

At this very moment, thousands of young doctors all over India have chosen not to run away from the deadly virus, because they believe in the ultimate sacrifice: for saving the life of millions. They are the true heroes. Shouldn't they get better respect?

Thousands of junior, post graduate doctors, interns and medical officers are being forced to work not only against their wish, but against all fair constitutional rights. They are being threatened and punished even after overworking.

Don’t the doctors have human rights who have been slogging, carrying the pandemic burden on their shoulders while politicians hog credit when patients recover? All PG students are now forced to join duties at Covid hospitals. For last six months, they have also been denied leave, permission to meet sick parents, or even quarantine themselves after getting exposed to the virus.

Doctors, you are very special to us. Humanity will always be grateful to you for your bravery and your service.
