The recent Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed lives was not just a tragic loss of human life but also a devastating blow to the faith people had in our governance system. Unfortunately, such incidents have become alarmingly frequent in the past couple of years. The train accident that killed 296 people last year, the Manipur violence, stampedes, bridge collapses, hoarding collapses, drunk-driving accidents involving drivers with political connections, and landslides due to unchecked construction – all point to a systemic failure. Instead of strict action against those responsible, we witness photo ops from our leaders. It's a shame that the majority of citizens continue to re-elect such individuals who exhibit no empathy. Monetary compensation can never replace lost lives. It's time for us to demand accountability and good governance.
