TATA is TATA for the sole reason that they have a battery of amazing PR agencies and spinmeisters bathing the group in some sort of divine halo 24x7. Handing out a piffling Rs 1 crore (note that the market cap of the group exceeds $403 billion) to relatives of the victims will not obliterate the group's accountability vis a vis the accident in the first place, this is just a devious cover up. Ever since Air India was acquired by the Tatas for peanuts, the airline has been going South ; ill maintained planes, poor inflight service, untrained ground staff, overworked and fatigued pilots on long haul flights, outsourcing safety checks which were previously done inhouse, near misses and many other things euphemistically termed 'technical snags' ! In any other country where courts dispense justice and punitive damages are sought, they would have had to shell out millions of dollars in lawsuits per life lost, if negligence is proved beyond reasonable doubt. With Tatas and Boeing's deep pockets and connections there is zero possibility of these two entities being indicted for this tragic crash. It will be pinned on 'human (ie. pilot) error.'
