An ancient sculpture was reportedly unearthed during Smart City work along Cunha Rivara Road in Panaji, found less than a foot below the footpath. Objects closer to the surface are newer than those found deeper. This discovery has sparked intrigue and speculation among historians and locals. The archaeology department has taken possession of the artefact.

This sculpture holds historical significance and offers insight into history. Found on Tuesday, it split into two below the waist during excavation. There may be more such artefacts underground in the capital. Extreme care is needed during Smart City digging to avoid damaging such treasures. JCBs used in digging could destroy artefacts forever. Preserving cultural relics is crucial for passing down our history to future generations.
