The alarming rate of road accidents is a pressing concern. With at least two accidents reported daily, resulting in fatalities, it's imperative that we prioritize road safety. During my observations, I've witnessed numerous violations, including: Using phones while driving/riding, not wearing helmets, failure to use indicators, speeding, underage drivers, women riding with bags on one shoulder and multiple pillion riders. Strong measures must be planned and implemented. To enhance monitoring, I suggest involving citizens through a portal where they can report traffic violations with photographic or video evidence, similar to neighbouring states. This would supplement the police force's efforts. While the RTO cites staff shortages, I've often seen groups of traffic police congregating at specific points. Why not deploy them for wider coverage? Stricter punishments are also necessary, including fines, licence blacklisting and vehicle confiscation. Let's work together to make our roads safer.
