What stops the BJP government from coming out with a permanent pension scheme for seafarers? This question is doing the rounds in the Saxtti countryside with the government extending the pension scheme for six more months. It is a sheer coincidence that the scheme was formulated by the late Manoharbhai Parrikar when he returned to power in 2012 after Saxtti rejected the Congress. And, it is a coincidence that the scheme was stopped in 2019 when Saxtti rallied behind Congress in the 2017 Assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Since then, the scheme is only getting extensions from six months to a year after it was revived in 2021. Sounds surprising, isn’t it?
