On Opinion Poll Day, the Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai took the platform of Goemkar, Ek Pavl Ekcharem to unveil plans to table a resolution in the ensuing budget to celebrate Opinion Poll Day at the official level. Call it a sheer coincidence or not, a tweet from Yuribab Alemao stated he had raised the demand for official recognition for Opinion Poll last year. Sources say Yuribab’s tweet did not go down well in the Goa Forward camp, causing further stress in the already strained relations. Any takers?
Winds of change: Sarpanchas from Benaulim attend Cong programme
It’s a sheer coincidence that a group of sarpanchas from Benaulim constituency represented by the Aam Aadmi Party, were prominently seen at the Lohia Maidan for the Opinion Poll Day celebrations organised by the Congress. Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixonbab Vaz, Carmona Sarpanch Sandrabai Fernandes, Orlim Sarpanch Simonbab Pereira, besides Benaulim Sarpanch Xavierbab Pereira and Varca deputy Sarpanch Solanbab Furtado were all seated together at the Lohia Maidan. Dixonbab says the group attended the Opinon Poll Day programme at the invitation of district Congress chief Saviobab D’Silva. Wait and watch.

New entrant to the Congress party, former Margao Municipal Chairperson Saviobab Coutinho was amongst the party workers and leaders prominently seen at the Lohia Maidan on Opinion Poll Day programme. More than Saviobab, however, it was wife and social activist Pratimabai who was the cynosure of all eyes at the Lohia Maidan. After quitting the Aam Aadmi Party last year, Pratimabab has not joined any other political party and her presence at the Opinion Poll Day celebrations has only fuelled speculations whether she has plans for Ghar Vapsi in the Congress. Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai seemed to have come under close scrutiny of political observers. Days after he shared the dais at the Chalo Ayodhya programme in his backyard presided over by Sadguru Brahmeshanand Acharya Swami, Vijaibab opened his doors for a delegation of RSS functionaries earlier this week to receive Akshata on the occasion of the consecration of Lord Ram Temple. One who had all along distanced himself from the saffron party, Sardesai’s recent posturing has only thrown up a question or two in political circles, leaving observers to wonder whether it’s an attempt to create a feel good factor or simply a bid to score some brownie points with opponents moving door-to-door to distribute Akshata.
LS ticket: Opponents wary as Girish joins Rahul’s Yatra 2.0
When Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched Bharat Jodo Yatra 2 from Manipur on Sunday, one leader who was with the Congress leader was none other than ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar. Girishbab’s presence at Manipur has been attributed to his recent appointment as Congress party in-charge of the North Indian states. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has started from Manipur, but the same old question has come to haunt opponents back home – whether Girishbab will get the party nomination to contest from South Goa and whether Rahul Gandhi will say no to him if Girishbab asks for the ticket.
