Pastor’s arrest, Sancoale incident put minority BJP MLAs in a spot

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JANUARY 07, 2024, 12:32 AM IST

Incidents of a pastor being arrested for alleged conversion and Hindu organisations protesting at Sancoale may put the minority BJP MLAs and Ministers and MLAs supporting the Pramod Sawant dispensation in a tight spot. For, citizens took the social media, seeking the say of the minority MLAs, including the BJP MLAs and others supporting the government, on these two incidents. Well, it is a sheer coincidence the two incidents took place at the beginning of the New Year and ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Will the Ministers and MLAs from the minority community in the BJP government shed light on the government’s take on these incidents? Wait and watch.

What has transpired at PCC, CLP chiefs meet in Delhi?

As GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar and Opposition leader Yuribab Alemao return back home from the national capital, questions are asked on the inputs the duo gave to the party high command on the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. For, the PCC and CLP chiefs of all states were specifically invited by the High Command to discuss the LS polls, and to seek feedback on party strategies, including forging tie-ups with regional parties, choice of candidates et al. Has the Amit-Yuri duo suggested the names of any of the regional parties for an electoral tie-up in Goa and whether they have conveyed their stand on the time tested norm of fielding majority and minority community candidates for the North and South Goa seats respectively. Wait and watch.

Altone’s presence at AICC HQ in Delhi questioned

How come Congress Quepem MLA Altonbab D’Costa was present at the AICC headquarter in Delhi along with GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar and Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao, is a question doing the rounds in Congress circles and outside over the last two days. Pose the question to Yuribab, and the Opposition leader says the party leadership had invited only him and GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar to Delhi as part of the interaction with State party PCC and CLP leaders. Don’t be surprised if Yuribab says he cannot stop anyone from visiting the AICC headquarters or meet the High Command. Any takers?

When Sardinha charged new Cong entrants as BJP agents

Guess the party leaders South Goa MP Francisbab Sardinha targeted when he charged certain new entrants in the party for working as agents of the BJP? Well, the sitting Congress MP apparently lost his cool after reports in the social media reportedly backed the candidature of AAP-turned-Congress leader Elvisbab Gomes and Capt Viriatbab Fernandes. The four-time sitting MP seemed to have still not forgotten that Elvisbab had unsuccessfully contested against him in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls before the bureaucrat-turned-politician quit the Aam Aadmi Party to join the Congress. Any questions?

Nuvem accidents: Babashan takes up cudgels for motorists

After former Minister Mickkybab Pacheco, ex-Nuvem MLA Wilfred aka Babashan D’Sa has descended on the fertile political plains of Nuvem. After the Nuvem stretch of the western bypass reported yet another road accident, Babashan rushed to the spot to take up cudgel for motorists. He even threatened to shut the road if the defunct traffic signals are not revived immediately, virtually signaling his return to active politics after lying low post-2022 Assembly polls. Any questions?
