Ambelim Sports Club edged past Chandor Club 3-2 in an exciting match to move into the quarterfinals of the 15th London Trophy Inter Village Football Tournament 2023 organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Sunday.
In a fast-paced encounter, Chandor Club missed going ahead in the very 1st minute of play as Denzan D'Costa headed over from point-blank range. Chandor Club missed another chance in the 6th minute of play when Mark Fernandes shot wide from close. Soon after, at the other end Asfin Pinto of Ambelim Sports Club blasted over the Chandor goal.
Chandor Club surged ahead in the 16th minute of play through Safik Sheikh who brilliantly shot home off a second effort. Vishal Araker missed the chance to equalise for Ambelim in the 33rd minute as his effort landed into the side netting. At half-time, Chandor Club led by a solitary goal.
Ambelim came with renewed vigour in the second half and immediately found the equaliser in the 50th minute through Semson Fernandes who curled his shot into the corner of Chandor Club net. Semson Fernandes scored his second goal and put Ambelim ahead when he tapped home from close in the 54th minute. Asfin Pinto made it 3-1 in favour of Ambelim when he headed home, beating the Chandor keeper in the 59th minute.
Chandor Club reduced the margin in the 61st minute through Joaquim Carvalho, 3-2, when he converted a penalty after Alreach Peixoto was brought down by Ambelim defender Vishal Araker. Asfin Pinto and Loyd Simoes of Ambelim were cautioned by match referee Roshan Pednekar.
Semson Fernandes of Ambelim Sports Club was awarded the Man of the Match and received the prize from Michael Silva.
Team Shivaji win futsal exhibition match
Team Shivaji beat Team Pratap 3-2 in a futsal exhibition match organised by the Army Veterans at Camp Souza Camorlim ground on Sunday. The teams were tied 2-2 in regulation time. For Team Shivaji, Brig Umar Farrok netted a brace while Stanly and Elison scored for Team Pratap. In the extra time, Brig Dikshit netted the winner for Team Shivaji.
Margarita Boys Assolna move into semis
Margarita Boys Assolna made short work of Bab Bakery Benaulim 3-1 and moved into the semifinals of the 16th Rebello Pandal football tournament organised by Rebello Pandal at St Rita Church ground, Maina on Sunday. Maison of Margarita Boys netted the first goal of the match in the 6th minute but the joy was short-lived as Rohan equalised for Bab Bakery in the 10th minute. Margarita Boys changed the game plan in the second half by giving an extra task to Aliston to control the midfield as well as the frontline and the plan worked with Aliston netting a brace, scoring in the 48th and 60th minutes to make it 3-1. Rohan of Bab Bakery Benaulim received the Man of the match prize from Floriano Demello.
