Batora United Football Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St. Anthony on Tuesday to book their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club and played at the St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim.
The first half saw St. Anthony’s Lester Dias test Batora’s defense with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but goalkeeper Caitano Gomes reacted brilliantly to punch the ball away for a corner. Batora then struck the decisive blow when Alynir Fernandes found the back of the net, finishing calmly off a well-timed pass from Shown Dias.
Despite St. Anthony’s efforts to find an equaliser, Batora’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Caitano Gomes putting in a standout performance between the posts. His heroics earned him the Man of the Match award, which was presented by Silvester Silveira, a member of Agxem Sports Club.
