Chandor Sports Club emerged champion in the 22nd Bro Eulalio Vaz memorial football tournament after defeating Sao Jose de Areal 3-1 via the tie-breaker, organised by Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda, at Don Bosco ground, on sunday.
Chandor attacked in very first minutes of the game as Alreach Peixeto missed to tap in an open goal. At the other end, Rayman of Areal left footer missed the target in the 16th minutes. As match progressed, Areal's Alister Monteiro's powerful shot was punch away by Chandor goalkeeper Alwyn Faria before the half time.
In the last quarter of the match, Areal players Alister, Keston and Rayman tried to breakdown the Chandor defence but Akram, Joaquim and Cruz denied them the chance to score. In the dying minutes, Chandor's Vitorinho's shot was blocked by Areal keeper Monty Valadares as the match ended goalless.
In the penalty shoot-out, Chandor scored through Victorino Fernandes, Joaquim Carvalho and Mark Fernandes while only Tyson Carvalho found the net for Areal.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Giovanni Rolandi (ex.oridanary visitor), Fr Kinley D'Cruz (Director of Don Bosco, Fatorda), Fr Ralin De Souza(Rector, Don Bosco ,Fatorda), Fr George Quadros(Director-Project Rice), Fr. Leo Pereira (Director Don Bosco, Fatorda), Fr. Thomas Fernandes (Confesor-Shrine), Anthony Pango, GFA vice-president, Cosme Oliveira ,GFA executive member and other dignitaries.
