Cortalim Villagers WSC prevail over Vasco SC

Cortalim Villagers Welfare Sports Club emerged victorious with a convincing 2-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the GFA Goa Professional League, at Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex, on Friday.

Cortalim Villagers led 1-0 at half time. The game kicked-off with Cortalim Villagers asserting their dominance from the start. In the 29th minute, Cyril Dias delivered a precision ball behind the defense line, setting up Michale Dias who calmly slotted the ball into the net to break the deadlock.

At the other end, Vasco Club were handicapped with the absence of five key players who were doing duty for clubs who were playing I-League 3 Play Off as they took the field with three substitute on the bench and hardly made a impact on the rival citadel. Cortalim Villagers had couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards misfired from close range.

Crossing over, Cortalim Villagers continued the relentless attack and their attacking prowess persisted and trouble the Vasco defence. Cortalim Villagers double the lead in the 67th minute when Cyril Dias stepped up and clinically placed the ball to the far corner of the net extending Cortalim Villagerss lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute.

At Dempo SC academy ground, Calangute started like a rocket, Jovito and Gonsalves bombarding Dylan, Dempo's rock in goal. The Eagles, meanwhile, lacked bite, relying on Sairon's set-pieces.

The second half saw a resurgent Calangute, Gonsalves threatening again. Then, Dempo struck gold in the 71st minute, Rodrigues nodding home a corner. But the joy was short-lived. Substitute Aman Govekar, with seconds remaining, silenced Dempo SC Academy with a thunderous equalizer, leaving both teams with mixed emotions. Dylan's heroics and Calangute's late surge were the highlights of a pulsating encounter.

In GFA Division II, FC Goa and Dunes SC played out a goalless draw.

In GFA U-13 Division II, Canacona SCC secured a comfortable 9-1 win over Ave Maria AWC. Union of Chinchinim Villagers downed Wilred Leisure 21-1. Valpoi FC defeated Vintage 73 SC 3-0.
