Darsh Pai notched up twin victories in the ongoing state-ranking TNS PG Open tennis tournament at the Panjim Gymkhana on Friday.
Darsh defeated Kyan Mavany 6-3 in the boys’ under-18 category while also brushing aside the challenge by Devansh Naik 6-0 in the boys’ under-14 category.
With the two convincing victories, Pai reached the semifinals in both categories. Meanwhile, Mavany's solid forehand ensured his entry into the semifinals of the boys’ under-14 category with a win over Noah Carvalho. Kabir Gadre beat Gaurang Nerulkar 6-1 to move into the semifinals of the boys’ under-18 grouping.
In the girls' under-18 years event, Tithee Bhoomkar swept away her opponent Mahi Singh 6-0, while Vidhi beat Anika 6-2 to reach the semifinals.
The men’s singles matches got off to a great start with impressive gameplay and notable sportsmanship. In the pre-quarters, Tejas Shevde defeated Jai Gill 6-3 while Pankaj vanquished Kishore with an impressive 6-0 victory. Later in the day, Tejas continued with his winning streak by defeating Pankaj 6-0, qualifying for the semifinals.
