Deep wins first Sanguem taluka chess tournament

Deep Bhatikar won the first Sanguem Taluka Chess Tournament organised by Sanguem Taluka Chess Association at Government Higher Secondary School, Sanguem.

Despite being the first edition and chess being introduced at several schools in the taluka by STCA by holding camps and classes, the tournament evoked good response and saw a large participation. The tournament was declared open by the Uguem Sarpanch Bharati Naik and ZP member of Sanguem, Suresh Datta Kepekar, by lighting the traditional lamp.

Deep won the championship trophy while the second and third prizes were won by Kunal B Bandolkar and Sahil Kuttikar respectively. The other winners in the open category were: Pranav Dessai, Muriel Shanessa Fernandes, Pratik Gaonkar, Utkarsh Gaonkar, Dhiraj Gaonkar, Narendra Borkar and Sanket Gaonkar. In the age category, Royson Fernandes and Viddhi Sawant Dessai (under-9), Mohit Gaonkar and Sanaya Naik (under-11) and Raunak Gaonkar and Jeeya Rekdo (under-13) were awarded prizes.

The prizes were distributed at the hands of Chief Officer, Sanguem Municipal Council, Priti Naik, Kishore Bandekar, Sharendra Naik and Kishore Rama Gauns Dessai.
