As FC Goa gears up for the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, captain Sandesh Jhingan is optimistic about breaking the club’s trophy drought. The team, led by head coach Manolo Marquez, is aiming high this season, targeting both the league shield and the playoffs trophy. FC Goa will kick start their campaign for this season on 17th of September against Jamshedpur FC at PJN stadium at Fatorda.
Jhingan recently shared an update on his injury recovery. He missed a significant part of last season due to an injury but is now back in training. “It was tough missing so many games during such a crucial period,” Jhingan said. “But I’m grateful for the support from FC Goa and my family. My rehab is going well, and I expect to be back in a few weeks.”
Jhingan also emphasized the crucial role FC Goa’s fans play in the team’s success. “Fans are the true identity of a club,” he noted. “When I played against FC Goa years ago, the atmosphere and the cheers of ‘Forca Goa’ were unforgettable. Fans bring energy and enthusiasm that are vital for the team’s performance. We need them fully involved, and their support will be key to our success this season.”
When asked about Marquez’s dual role as both FC Goa head coach and Indian national team manager, Jhingan expressed confidence. “Marquez is well-equipped to handle both roles,” he said. “He knows my current condition and how I’ll perform in the future. It’s great to work with him both at the club and national level. His coaching style and tactical training are helping us improve.”
Speaking of winning the title for FCGoa this season, Jhingan is hopeful about FC Goa’s chances this season. Reflecting on past performances, he said, “We’ve been close to winning in the past, often reaching the semi-finals. This season, we’re aiming for the ISL shield and Cup, taking it game by game.”
With pre-season preparations almost coming to an end, FC Goa and their fans are eager to see what the new season will bring.
