Fr Agnelo Gomes, Director of Agnel Technical Educational complexes and Fr Vicky Hilario, Manager of Fr Agnel Multipurpose HSS were present at the final held at the Santa Cruz ground. The team is being coached by Luis Barreto of South Goa Academy along with former India coach Alex Ambrose and PE teacher Fraizer Fernandes.
Last year, the Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School U-16 team had represented Goa in this U-17 international competition. “Since we had the core of this same team with us, we went about our task of motivating these same players to give off their best in this important competition,” said Fr Agnelo.
“In all likelihood, we will need to regroup and depart for Delhi shortly. I have impressed on our players and on the coaching staff that we can indeed perform even better this year,” he added.
The highlight of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose HSS triumph this year is that the team did not concede a single goal throughout this competition. En route to final against St Xavier’s, they thrashed St Alex HSS, Curtorim 8-0, beat Marina English School 4-0 before scraping past Rosary High School, Navelim 1-0.
In the Salcete taluka final, Fr Agnel Multipurpose HSS defeated Perpetual Succor High School, Navelim 5-0 and followed this up with a 11-0 mauling of Shiroda HSS and a sound 5-0 win against Damodar HSS, Quepem in the South Goa District final.
