Maina Sports Club advanced to the next round of the Benaulim Villagers Cup with a dominant 3–0 win over Verna SC at the St John the Baptist Panchayat Ground.
Maina got off to a flying start as Frazer Fernandes opened the scoring in the 8th minute. Despite Verna SC stepping up the pressure in the second half, Maina goalkeeper Prakash Joshi produced a series of vital saves to keep them at bay.
Joywin Carneiro was a constant threat to the Verna defence with his pace and incisive runs, while Verna’s goalkeeper Samuel Miranda also impressed with several key stops to prevent a heavier scoreline.
Maina doubled their lead in the 32nd minute through Jovel Martins, before Frazer Fernandes struck again in the closing stages to seal a comprehensive win and book their place in the next round.
