Music teacher Sheryl Lucia Vas always wanted to watch Portugal in action and cheer her favourite team from the stands. Thanks to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, that has become a reality with the Goa Velha resident watching a couple of matches.

With music being part of her everyday life it was but natural she put her creative skills to good use during and ahead of the World Cup. The result is two World Cup-related songs which have been released -- “It’s Your Moment Qatar” and “Forca Portugal”.

Talking about her songs, she said: “It’s Your Moment Qatar” FIFA World Cup Song 2022 is written and composed by me and it’s recorded, mastered and produced by a very talented musician, Adrian Sequeira from Goa of Sour Chilli records,” said Sheryl, who watched Portugal's group matches,

“As Qatar is hosting the world cup for the first time, the excitement has spread all over the world. Many Indians and especially we Goans have a very special attachment towards football. A lot of us have many relatives working and living in the Gulf countries including Qatar and they were able to experience the world cup live in the stadiums,” she said about Goans and Indian connection with Qatar.

Incidentally, her father Antonio Vas has spent more than four decades in Qatar and is an active member of the Goan community in cultural, social and sports events, besides being a football player in his younger days.

“I felt it very close to my heart to compose and release a new song in a very short span of time “It’s your moment Qatar” was released on November 20, the day of the opening ceremony of the Qatar World Cup 2022.”

After releasing her first song, Sheryl attended a couple of matches involving Portugal and she said it was “an overwhelming experience”. She then released her second World Cup-related song.

“I have released my second song too. “Forca Portugal" was released on December 1 on YouTube and other social media. It’s like a dream come true as I love the Portugal team. I have been a great fan of Cristiano Ronaldo since childhood. The music for Forca Portugal is produced and mastered by renowned musicians of Goa, with the song being recorded, mixed and mastered by Mukesh Ghatwal while Music Programmer and Arranger is Roque Lazarus and Mukesh, while the video production is by Arjun Gosavee.”

Sheryl has been able to score quite a few goals off the field in Qatar and using the music platform to send her message to a larger audience of followers in India, Qatar and elsewhere where Goans are based, using social media as a medium to transmit the information to the masses.
