MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club edged past Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, 3-2 to enter the quarter-finals of the 16th Davorlim Cup, organised by Sporting Club Davorlim, at the Panchayat Ground, Davorlim, on Friday.
Guardian Angel had an early opportunity when Vitorinho Fernandes’ shot was punched away for a corner. Navelim capitalised soon after, earning a corner of their own which Regan Costa headed home to give his side a 1-0 lead at half-time.
After the break, Navelim doubled their advantage through Meaver Fonceca. Guardian Angel responded with a counter-attack that resulted in a penalty after the Navelim goalkeeper brought down an opposition player inside the box. Richard Fernandes converted from the spot to reduce the deficit.
In the final quarter, Trevis Souza restored Navelim’s two-goal cushion. Vitorinho Fernandes pulled one back in the closing minutes, but Navelim held on to secure a 3-2 victory.
Richard Fernandes of Guardian Angel was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Seby Costa, football promoter from Dicarpale.
