MARGAO: In a significant step towards strengthening India’s sporting framework, Dr Shaji Prabhakaran has launched a philanthropic Sports Grassroots Leadership Programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of sports leaders.

The initiative is designed to equip aspiring individuals with key skills in governance, community engagement, and strategic planning, thereby contributing to the overall development of the country’s sports ecosystem.

The programme will be offered free of cost to selected candidates who demonstrate a strong passion for sports development. It will feature a comprehensive 50-hour curriculum, combining both online and in-person sessions to provide a balanced and practical learning experience.

In a move to encourage inclusivity and gender equality, 50 percent of the seats have been reserved for female participants.

A standout feature of the programme is the one-year mentorship opportunity under Dr Prabhakaran, which will allow participants to gain valuable insights and guidance from an experienced sports administrator.

Interested candidates can apply for the programme until April 30, 2026, while the sessions are scheduled to commence from August 1, 2026.

The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in building capable leadership at the grassroots level and fostering long-term growth in Indian sports.
