Father, daughter injured in daylight knife attack at Cortalim; Nephew booked for attempt to murder

A 34-year-old woman was seriously injured in a brutal daylight knife attack at Vollant in Cortalim, while her father Gokuldas Shirodkar (66), also sustained injuries while trying to rescue her.

The Verna Police Station has registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused, Sushant Narshiv Shirodkar (47).

A complaint was filed by the victim father Gokuldas Shirodkar, who is a resident of Vollant, against the accused, Sushant Narshiv Shirodkar who is his nephew.

According to a complaint filed, the incident took place on Saturday at around 9:45 am on an internal road in the locality.

The complainant stated that his daughter, Shital Palekar (34), had stepped out to pluck flowers when the accused nephew, approached her. The accused was reportedly not on cordial terms with the family.

Police said, “The accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, began verbally abusing the woman and questioned her presence at her parental home despite being married and residing in Carambolim.”

The situation escalated when the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife, repeatedly striking her on the head and neck, causing grievous injuries. Hearing her cries, her father rushed to the spot and attempted to intervene but was also injured in the process.

Both victims were provided medical treatment following the incident.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case of attempt to murder, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
