Runners participate in a promotional run of the 13th SKF Goa River Marathon.

Amid heavy rain, close to 400 runners took part in the promotional run of the 13th SKF Goa River Marathon held at the Verna industrial estate on Sunday.
The run, which was organised by the Vasco Sports Club in collaboration with the Verna Industries Association, featured a 5km and 10km run. One of the main roads of the industrial estate was blocked off for vehicular traffic, ensuring safe passage for all the runners. The 13th SKF Goa River Marathon will be held on December 10, registrations for which have opened on www.skfgoarivermarathon.com.
Curtorim Gymkhana edge into quarters
MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana edged CAC Cansaulim 2-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the 50th edition of the Custodio Memorial Football Tournament at Raia Panchayat ground on Sunday.
Joel of Curtorim sent in a long ball to Joywin Carneiro who took control of the ball and shot from close range but Cansaulim goalkeeper Shane Afonso saved brilliantly in the 10th minute. At the other end, Elvino Fernandes of Cansaulim sent a long ranger which failed to pop up into the Curtorim net in the 15th minute.
It was Jowyin Carneiro who netted two quick goals for Curtorim with power-packed shots in the 40th and 47th minutes. Then Aaron of Cansaulim crossed a ball to Dominic Soares who took a powerful shot, which crashed into the Curtorim net in the 67th minute. Jowyin Carneiro of Curtorim Gymkhana was awarded the man of the match at the hands of Anthony Rodrigues, proprietor of Snows Bakery, Raia.
Goa Velha down Cuncolim Union 5-4
Goa Velha Sports Club prevailed over Cuncolim Union 5-4 via tiebreaker to cruise into the quarterfinals of the 15th St Anthony's Festival Cup 2023 organised by St Anthony's Sports Club Assolda at Moll Ground Assolda on Sunday.
Goa Velha and Cuncolim Union were tied 1-1 at halftime. Cuncolim Union enjoyed the edge over their opponents in the first half and fired sorties against the rival citadel. Cuncolim Union rocked the rival citadel in the 5th minute when Preston Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap-shot.
Stung by the early reversal, Goa Velha created many openings but Cuncolim Union defenders were alert in thwarting their attacks. At the other end, Cuncolim Union had chances but their forwards misfired from close range. Goa Velha cancelled the lead at the stroke of the lemon break when Chandan Gawas fired home.
The second session turned livelier with both teams' strikers troubling the rival rearguard with well-orchestrated raids but a match-winner eluded them. In the ensuing tiebreaker, Kunal Kundaikar, Supurva Kunal, Chandan Gawas, and Uday Plukar were on target for Goa Velha while Dailon Carvalho, Cunny Fernandes and Wilson Fernandes found the mark for Cuncolim Union.
Dicarpale SC get the better of Rossman Cruz
Dicarpale SC defeated Rossman Cruz Nagoa 3-1 and moved into the quarterfinals of the 1st VJT Cup 2023 organized by Enfermos Sports Club, Singuetim at Church ground, Chinchinim on Sunday.
Dicarpale struck the rhythm and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute through the boots of Darwin Carvalho, Six minutes later, William Niasso doubled the score. Alent Colaco put the issue beyond doubt in the 30th minute. After the break, the consolation goal for Rossman Cruz was scored in the 50th minute through Savio Pereira. Savio Pereira was named Man of the Match and received a gift from the chief guest AP Viegas.
PY Nuvem beat Fr Agnelo YSC 3-1
Parish Youth Nuvem downed Fr Agnelo YSC of Paroda 3-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the 12th Cana Benaulim Inter-village Panchayat Cup football tournament at St John de Baptista ground, Benaulim on Sunday. Meislim Barreto scored a brace while Jonas Colaco added one goal for Parish Youth Nuvem. The only goal for Fr Agnelo YSC was netted by Livren Rebello.
