Sao Jose de Areal triumphed over Navelim Villagers Union 5-3 via a penalty shootout to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, held at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.

In a high-paced and intense encounter, Areal came out strong, immediately putting pressure on the Navelim defense. Navelim’s Rovan Pereira was key in keeping the scores level, making a crucial tackle on Priston Gomendes in the 3rd minute. In the 9th minute, Aryan Carvalho of Areal had a clear shot at goal but was again thwarted by Rovan's timely intervention.

Navelim nearly took the lead in the 17th minute when Ronaldo Pereira’s long-range effort narrowly missed the target. Areal had a golden opportunity in the 32nd minute when Priston Gomendes missed an easy chance, shooting wide with only the goalkeeper to beat. The first half ended in a goalless draw.

The second half saw Areal continue to dominate. A slick one-two between Priston and Aryan in the 40th minute resulted in Aryan calmly slotting the ball past the Navelim goalkeeper to give Areal the lead. Navelim responded quickly in the 47th minute when Lyndon outfoxed the Areal keeper with a well-timed diving tap-in, leveling the score at 1-1. Both teams pushed hard for a winner, but solid defending kept the score deadlocked at the end of regulation time.

In the penalty shootout, Areal held their nerve, converting all four of their spot kicks, while Navelim could only manage two, handing Areal the victory.

Aryan Carvalho was named Player of the Match by Sevaraj D'Costa, the organizing Chairman of the Guirdolim Panchayat Cup.
