St Anne’s Institute, Agonda delivered a dominant performance to defeat PM’s GHS Gowal-Khola 4-0 and emerge champions of the Canacona Taluka Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament (Girls). The final, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), was played at the Karvem-Gaondongrim ground.
The Agonda girls stamped their authority right from kickoff, with Gwyneth Fernandes opening the scoring in the very first minute with a confident strike from midfield. The early lead set the tone for the rest of the match.
Shortly after, Anishka Gaunkar broke through the opposition defence to slot in the second goal before halftime, giving St. Anne’s a comfortable 2-0 advantage going into the break.
Resuming the match with the same intensity, Gwyneth Fernandes added her second goal in the opening minute of the second half, further demoralising the Gowal-Khola side. The final nail in the coffin came from Aayushi Naik Gaunkar, who sealed the win with a well-placed effort, making it 4-0.
The Agonda team displayed excellent teamwork, discipline, and attacking flair throughout the final.
Earlier in the semifinals, St. Anne’s Institute thrashed Govt. Higher Secondary School, Canacona with a commanding 7-0 victory. Goals came from Gwyneth Fernandes (3), Anishka Gaunkar (3), and Vardhana Velip (1).
With this win, St. Anne’s Institute firmly established themselves as a powerhouse in girls' football at the Taluka level.
