St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda booked their place in the finals of the 19th Super Soccer Inter-Village Football Tournament with a confident 2-0 victory over Navelim Villagers Union. The tournament is organized by United Club of Benaulim and the semifinal clash was played at the St. John de Baptista football ground on Thursday.
Navelim started the match on the front foot, creating early chances. Rovan Pereira squandered a clear opportunity to put his side ahead, while Noah Luis saw his tame shot comfortably gathered by Assolda goalkeeper Uswik Rodrigues.
Against the run of play, Assolda took the lead in the 20th minute. Sunny Fernandes rose above the defence to head home a perfectly delivered curling free kick from Mark Revlon Fernandes. Assolda doubled their advantage just seven minutes later, when Sildom Peixote made no mistake in tapping in a low cross from Sunny Fernandes.
In the second half, Navelim dominated possession and mounted pressure through the efforts of midfielders Mark Revlon Fernandes and Richard Fernandes. However, Assolda's defense held firm to protect their two-goal cushion.
For his influential performance, particularly his assist and presence in midfield, Mark Revlon Fernandes of St Anthony’s SC Assolda was named Man of the Match. The trophy was presented by GFA Head of Referees, Melvin Costa.
