The preliminary stage of the 5th Fr Peter SVD Memorial Football Tournament concluded on Saturday at the SVD Seminary Ground in Raia, setting the stage for an exciting knockout phase.

After a week of spirited matches, eight schools have booked their quarterfinal berths. The knockout matches will begin on Monday, August 11.

Organised by SVD Seminary Raia from August 6 to 14, the tournament honours Fr Peter SVD, a German missionary who founded the SVD Mission Seminary in Raia and was known for his lifelong passion for football. Sixteen schools from across Goa have competed in his memory this year.

On the final day of the group stage, St Jude High School of Betalbatim delivered a dominant performance against Our Lady of Snows High School, Raia, winning 4-0. Lennoy Fernandes was the standout performer, scoring all four goals and moving to the top of the tournament’s scoring charts.

The other match of the day between Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Cortalim, and Marina High School ended in a tense stalemate, forcing a penalty shootout in which the Cortalim team emerged victorious by a narrow 7-6 margin.

With the group stages complete, the tournament now moves into the knockout phase, beginning with the quarterfinals on Monday, August 11, at 9 am. The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, at 4 pm, while the final will be played on Thursday, August 14, at 4 pm.
