Goa women secure third place in Quadrant event

The All India Police Control Board (AIPCB) team delivered a dominant performance at the 35th National Sepak Takraw Championship, held at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Margao, clinching top honours in five of the eight events contested.
The AIPCB contingent emerged champions in the Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Women’s Quadrant, Men’s Regu, and Women’s Regu categories, while also finishing runners-up in the Men’s Quadrant event.
Meanwhile, the Goa women’s team put up an impressive show to secure third place in the Women’s Quadrant category, drawing praise from officials and spectators alike.
Delhi claimed victories in the Women’s Doubles and Men’s Quadrant events, and also finished second in the Men’s Regu.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar was the chief guest. Among the dignitaries present were former Minister Avertano Furtado, Margao Municipal Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Ajay Gaude, Fr. Gabriel Coutinho of Rosary Church, Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar, Sr. Margareta Rebelo (Principal, Perpetual High School), Siddharth Revanekar (President, Infant Jesus High School, Cuncolim), Rajesh Naik (Deputy Director, Sports Authority of Goa), and Sunny Kanekar (President, All Goa College Sports Directors’ Association).
The function was presided over by former Deputy Chief Minister and Goa Sepak Takraw Association President Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, while Indian Sepak Takraw Federation President Yogendra Singh Dahiya and General Secretary Naresh Kumar also graced the occasion.
Commending the successful organisation of the national-level championship, Minister Tawadkar congratulated Kavlekar and lauded the efforts of the Goa Sepak Takraw Association. He reiterated the Government of Goa’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure, nurturing young talent, and promoting sports tourism in the state.
