Goa’s prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket, Snehal Kauthankar, has been selected for the South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025, which begins on 28 August in Bengaluru.

Mohit Redkar, Goa’s second-highest wicket-taker during the last Ranji season, has been named in the stand-by players list.

A visibly excited Kauthankar told 'The Goan', "It was truly a surprise. I am currently in the UK playing in the Yorkshire Premier Division matches, and I got to know that I have been selected to represent the South Zone squad in the Duleep Trophy.

"I feel humbled and honoured. I want to thank the Goa Cricket Association for recognising my efforts and for their constant support. This opportunity means a lot to me. I am working hard on my skills and strengths and I look forward to making everyone proud."

Kauthankar was undoubtedly the star performer for Goa during the last Ranji season. He was Goa’s top scorer for the 2024-25 season with 684 runs, which included his classic knocks of 314 not out against Arunachal Pradesh (the highest individual score by a Goan batsman in first-class cricket) and 250 against Mizoram.

In fact, Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakhale were involved in the highest partnership in Ranji Trophy history with their unbroken 606-run stand against Arunachal Pradesh. Snehal and Kashyap also slammed the second and third-fastest first-class triple centuries by an Indian during that match.

In domestic cricket, Snehal is the third-highest run-scorer for Goa, after Swapnil Asnodkar (5883 runs) and Sagun Kamat (5248 runs). He has scored 4127 runs in 59 matches, which includes 10 centuries and 14 fifties. Kauthankar has been part of Goa’s Ranji squad since 2015.

On the other hand, Mohit Redkar, with 18 wickets, was the second-highest wicket-taker for Goa during the last Ranji season, which included a five-wicket haul (5/43) against Mizoram. Ever since making his debut in December 2022, Mohit has taken 65 wickets in 20 matches in domestic cricket.

India international Tilak Varma will lead the South Zone team in the Duleep Trophy 2025, which will be held in Bengaluru from 28 August to 15 September.

In a return to its previous format, the Duleep Trophy will be contested by six zonal teams – North Zone, South Zone, West Zone, East Zone, Central Zone, and North East Zone – unlike last year, when the four squads – India A, B, C, and D – were handpicked by the senior men’s national selection committee.
