The Goa Basketball Association (GBA) has elected a new Executive Committee for the term 2025–2029, with Shane Dias re-elected as President for a second consecutive term. The elections were held at the International Centre in Dona Paula.
Parind Nachinolkar was elected as the new Secretary, while Andrew Cardozo was chosen as Treasurer. The executive team also includes Ashley Do Rosario as Joint Secretary, and Vice Presidents Lyndon Monteiro, Olencio Dias, and Sandeep Heble.
The other elected members of the Executive Committee are Helen Pinto, Sonali Raut Desai, Flobert Monteiro, and Dean D’Gama. Of the 11 elected members, eight are new to the committee, signalling a generational shift and the association’s intent to inject fresh energy and ideas into its leadership.
The elections were conducted under the guidelines of the National Sports Code. Advocate Ana Clara Ejipsy e Remedios served as the Returning Officer. The process was overseen by Anagha Warlikar, representing the Goa Olympic Association, and T Chengalraya Naidu, Treasurer of the Basketball Federation of India, who acted as the official observer on behalf of the BFI.
In a unanimous decision, the General Body proposed the co-option of one representative each from the North Goa and South Goa District Basketball Associations. Luis Gomes and Sumeet Tendulkar were accordingly nominated to join the Executive Committee.
President Dias addressed the General Body, stressing the importance of collaboration with district associations to develop basketball at the grassroots level and enhance the overall standard of the game in the state. Newly elected Secretary Nachinolkar outlined his vision for a revitalised basketball ecosystem in Goa, including a structured and dynamic calendar of events. He also emphasised the need to train coaches and technical officials through dedicated workshops, underlining that developing officiating standards is key to improving the quality of the sport.
Outgoing Secretary Fr Ralin De Souza extended a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the game’s growth during his 12-year tenure, and acknowledging the support of the Basketball Federation of India.
