Loyola HS and St Anne’s Inst crowned champions

Loyola High School, Margao, and St Anne’s Institute, Agonda emerged champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the 27th Bro Slattery Memorial All Goa Inter-School U-13 Football Tournament, organised by Regina Mundi High School, Chicalim in association with the Alumni Association of Regina Mundi School (AARMS).

In the boys’ final, Loyola HS, Margao defeated St Britto HS, Mapusa by a solitary goal to claim the title. Earlier in the semi-finals, St Britto overcame Infant Jesus HS, Colva in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Cayden Fernandes and Zubair A. Kaidarath scored for Infant Jesus, while Gershon Bagul and Brendan Rodrigues were on target for St Britto. Cayden Fernandes was named Player of the Match.

In the second semi-final, Loyola HS blanked hosts Regina Mundi HS 3–0, with Shay S. Fernandes scoring a brace and Nathan L. Afonso adding another. Presley Vaz was awarded Player of the Match for his performance.

Regina Mundi HS secured third place after defeating Infant Jesus HS 1–0 in the playoff, thanks to a goal by Ashok Dharlani.

In the girls’ final, St Anne’s Institute, Agonda edged past Assagao Union HS, Assagao 1–0, with Uriel Fernandes scoring the winning goal. Vidisha Assagaonkar, who had an impressive tournament, was adjudged Player of the Match and also received the Best Forward and Player of the Tournament awards.

Individual awards in the boys’ category went to Zacarius Fernandes (Best Defender – Regina Mundi HS), Nandesh Chopekar (Best Midfielder – St Britto HS), Presley Vaz (Best Forward – Regina Mundi HS), and Shay Fernandes (Player of the Tournament – Loyola HS).

In the girls’ section, Avani Velip (St Anne’s Institute) won Best Defender, Uriel Fernandes (St Anne’s) claimed Best Midfielder, while Vidisha Assagaonkar (Assagao Union HS) bagged the top individual honours.

The tournament featured 16 boys' teams and 8 girls' teams from across the state. Prizes and trophies were distributed by dignitaries including Peter Vales (Technical Director, Clube de Salgaocar),Anoop Abraham (Gen Secretary, Clube de Salgaocar), Allan Gonsalves (Organising Secretary & PE Teacher, RMS), Joslyn Carvalho, Myron Rodrigues (AARMS), Jack Colaco (Rosa Sports & CC), Bro Charles D'Souza (Manager, Regina Mundi), and Francisco Nunes (GFA ExCo Member).
