FC Goa has appointed Pepe Villar Berenguè as the club’s new Technical Director and Head of Methodology. Pepe brings a wealth of experience in developing both players and coaches, and he will lead the development and execution of FC Goa’s game model and coaching methods.

Pepe’s journey in football began at the age of 17 when he started coaching while still playing for various teams in Barcelona. By the age of 23, he was coaching at a football school affiliated with FC Barcelona, working alongside Manolo Márquez, who is now the Head Coach of FC Goa. In 2000, Pepe founded the Hristo Stoichkov Football Schools, a project he led until 2017. More recently, he launched the Life Futbol System, a program focused on training coaches worldwide, which eventually brought him to Goa.

In his new role at FC Goa, Pepe will focus on creating a comprehensive framework to develop both players and coaches, ensuring the Club’s continued progress.

Speaking about his new position, Pepe expressed his excitement about joining FC Goa. He shared that he was introduced to the Club through Manolo Márquez and quickly realized that their goals matched his vision for football development. Pepe was also drawn by the passion for football in Goa, which played a key role in his decision to take on this challenge.

Pepe emphasized the importance of understanding football as a complex and uncertain game, where social and emotional factors are crucial for both football and human development. Although his knowledge of Indian football was initially limited, Pepe is impressed by the professionalism and enthusiasm of the coaches and staff at FC Goa. He noted that while there is room for improvement, the level of dedication at FC Goa is comparable to many clubs in Catalonia.

He also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he has received at FC Goa and is eager to help grow the football tradition in India by sharing his love for the game.

Lokesh Bherwani, FC Goa’s Director of Football, also expressed excitement about Pepe’s appointment. He highlighted that Pepe’s extensive experience and innovative approach to football development will be invaluable as the Club continues to build a strong foundation for the future. Lokesh believes that Pepe’s vision aligns perfectly with FC Goa’s philosophy, and he is confident that Pepe will play a key role in enhancing the Club’s technical methods and contributing to the growth of football in Goa and India.
