Salgaocar FC came from behind to down Vasco Sports Club 3-2 in the GFA Goa Professional League at Duler stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
Felix Chidi (36') and Khrawkupar Tamu (37’) had given Vasco SC the lead before Mark Carvalho scored a hat-trick (45+2', 51’, 83’) to secure full points for the Greens.
Vasco broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Valentino lost possession to Savlon Fernandes, who then played the ball to Cavin Lobo. The former ISL player set up Chidi inside the box, and the foreigner got past a Salgaocar defender and smashed a left-footed shot to put Vasco ahead in the game. Vasco soon doubled the lead in the 36th minute from a set piece. It was once again Lobo who provided an assist to Tamu from a flag kick. The unmarked Vasco defender nodded in from close range to give his side a deserving two-goal lead.
Carvalho pulled a goal back in the 45th minute when he guided in a cross from the right to make it 1-2. Later, Salgaocar came agonisingly close to scoring the equaliser but Valentino Nazareth saw his shot from outside the box narrowly sailing over the bar.
In the second half, Salgaocar came back strongly and managed to get the leveller through Carvalho. Umang fired a low shot from outside the box, which fell to Carvhalo and he attempted another shot, which gave no chance to the rival keeper. It was Umang's second assist in the game.
At the hour mark, Salgaocar were close to getting the much-deserved lead when Umang tried to find Carvalho in front of the goal, but an alert Vasco custodian came off the line to collect the ball before the rival could get it.
In the 83rd minute, Carvalho completed his hat-trick, heading in a Samuel Costa freekick. In the stoppage time, Akash Sanadi had a shot on goal from a direct freekick but the Vasco custodian easily collected the ball.
