Calangute Veterans stamped their superiority with a comfortable 3-0 win against Bardez Veterans in the final of the first Goa Tiger Cup 2022 all-Goa inter-village football veterans tournament, organised by Goa United Sports Academy, at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Calangute on Sunday.
The teams started with a cautious approach in the first session and created a few chances. The deadlock was broken only in the second half through Bibiano Fernandes in the 30th minute.
The goal sparked life into the match as Bardez tried hard to make a comeback. Calangute had their plans and waited patiently to strike again. They got their second 10 minutes later through Alwin Fernandes and he scored another in the 48th minute to seal the title.
The Man-of-the-Match award went to Alex Alvares of Bardez Veterans. The award was handed over by former Salgaocar SC player Digambar Haldankar. The Goalkeeper of the Tournament award went to Vikrant Sharma of Bardez Veterans. He received a trophy and cash prize of Rs 5,000 from Jeneviva Fernandes of Mitra Veterans.
The Player of the Tournament went to Bibiano of Calangute Veterans. He received a trophy, cash prize of Rs 5,000 from Goa United SA president Fabiano De Souza.
The winners were awarded Rs 60,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 40,000 along with the trophies. It was handed over by Director of Association of Indian Football Coaches, Dinesh Nair.
