Baale Tigers and Manas Mavericks recorded emphatic wins in the Panaji Gymkhana-organised PGML 5.0 Cricket Tournament on Sunday at the Panjim Gymkhana ground, Campal–Panaji. Baale Tigers defeated Dempo Challengers by 9 wickets, while Manas Mavericks overcame Desserts N More Avengers by 5 wickets.
The morning match between Dempo Challengers and Baale Tigers turned out to be a one-sided affair. Opting to bat first, Dempo Challengers were bundled out for just 70 runs in 15.3 overs. Sunny Kamat was the top scorer with 25 runs, while Vedant Naik contributed 14. For Baale Tigers, Prasad Patil, Dhiraj Phadte, and Nilesh Bhonsle claimed three wickets each, and Sandeep Dahad picked up one wicket.
In reply, Baale Tigers chased down the modest target with ease, scoring 71 runs for the loss of just one wicket in 8.4 overs. Dhiraj Phadte scored 38 runs, while Sandeep Dahad remained unbeaten on 30, steering Baale Tigers to a comfortable victory.
The afternoon match was also largely one-sided. Batting first, Desserts N More Avengers* posted a competitive total of 152 for 5 in 20 overs. Opener Ojas Mehta top-scored with 55 runs off 47 balls. Muktiar Kadri added 22, while Suraj Hirani chipped in with a quick 21 not out off just 8 balls. For Manas Mavericks, Vikram Chodankar was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets.
Despite losing opener Vijay for a duck early in the chase, Manas Mavericks cruised to victory. Om Fadte displayed his all-round skills, scoring 46 runs off 27 balls, while Sahil Metri contributed 36 runs. Manas Mavericks also benefited from 27 extras, eventually reaching 153 for 5 in 17 overs to seal the match. For Desserts N More Avengers, Muktiar Kadri, Amod Borkar, Ojas Mehta and Aryan Bhonsle picked up one wicket each.
