MARGAO
Mandopa Sporting Club triumphed over Cuncolim Union with a 2-1 victory in the final of the All Goa Inter-Village Football Tournament, organized by the United Sports Club of Seraulim in memory of the late Rev. Fr. Joe Gomes. The match was held at the Seraulim Panchayat Ground.
Mandopa took the lead in the 12th minute when Sam Pereira sprinted down the right flank and unleashed a powerful shot that found the back of the net. However, Cuncolim Union quickly regrouped and equalized in the 18th minute. Mandopa’s goalkeeper made an initial one-on-one save, but the ball was left unprotected, and Narian Belki pounced on the opportunity to tap it into the open goal, leveling the score at 1-1.
The teams went into the break with the score tied at 1-1, and the second half was an intense, fast-paced affair with both sides pushing for the winning goal. It was Mandopa Sporting, however, who found the breakthrough in the 40th minute, with Nnaash Pereira scoring the match-winner.
Dr. Celso Fernandes, CEO of NAVEMARG Foundation, was the chief guest at the event, while Dr. Caitano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association, served as the Guest of Honour. Special invitees included Fr. John Gonsalves, Assistant Parish Priest of Seraulim, Andrew Ferrao, Executive Committee member of the GFA, and the nephew and niece of the late Fr. Joe Gomes, Galdinho Pereira and Maria Gracias, along with several other dignitaries, who presented the prizes.
