MARGAO: Cuncolim Union booked a place in the semi-finals after edging past Margao SC 1-0 in the All Goa Inter-Village Football Tournament, organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim in memory of Late Rev Fr Joe Gomes, at the Seraulim Panchayat Ground.
Both sides played attacking football and created several scoring opportunities, but the first half ended in a goalless stalemate. The decisive moment came in the 53rd minute when Vinod Velip’s shot took a deflection off a Margao defender and found the far corner of the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
The match also saw disciplinary action as Cayven Araujo of Margao SC and Denvil Fernandes of Cuncolim Union were shown red cards following a one-on-one altercation.
Hansel Furtado was adjudged Man of the Match and received the award from Adv Nitesh Parab.
