Goa head coach Alfred Fernandes expressed his satisfaction following the team’s convincing 4-1 victory over Maharashtra in Group H of the 30th Senior Women’s National Football Championship for Rajmata Jijabai, held at Bhavnagar, Gujarat on Wednesday.
“It’s truly a great result,” Fernandes, who previously coached Churchill Brothers FC, said. “We have demonstrated our capability with a strong performance in our opening match. We knew this game would be challenging, especially against a talented opponent.”
Fernandes added, “We scored the opening goal in a very natural way, but we did face some pressure towards the end of the first half. However, early in the second half, we scored again, which opened up the game. We capitalized on some mistakes by the opposition while maintaining our style of play.”
He emphasized the importance of staying focused going forward. “It’s crucial that we prepare well for the upcoming matches with the same seriousness we showed today to keep our winning streak alive,” Fernandes said.
He concluded, “I am very pleased with the team’s morale and spirit.”
