Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem secured a place in the semifinals of the 27th Holy Cross Inter-Village Football Tournament with a gritty 2-1 win over Guirdolim Club in a fiercely contested quarterfinal played on Sunday.
The match kicked off with high intensity and quick drama, as Guardian Angel took control early. In the 13th minute, striker Jaison capitalised on a defensive lapse by Guirdolim to open the scoring. Spotting a loose ball just outside the box, Jaison sprinted past the final defender and slotted a composed finish past the onrushing goalkeeper.
Momentum stayed with Guardian Angel as just a minute later, Mildroy doubled the lead with a precise low-angle strike that nestled into the bottom corner, making it 2–0 and putting Guirdolim on the back foot.
Refusing to go down without a fight, Guirdolim came back stronger in the second half, pushing forward with urgency. Their efforts paid off in the 55th minute when Akram found the net, offering a lifeline and shifting the momentum.
However, Guardian Angel’s backline, led by a disciplined defensive unit, held firm under pressure. In the closing stages, the Curchorem-based side kept their composure, maintained possession, and saw out the remaining minutes to secure a hard-fought victory.
