Navelim Sporting Club confidently advanced to the semifinals of the Benaulim Villagers Cup with a commanding 4-1 victory over Cuncolim Union at the St John the Baptist Panchayat ground.
Cuncolim started the match with promise, creating two golden chances early on through Vinod Velip and Wilson, but failed to convert. Navelim capitalised on these misses as Noah Luis struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 19th and 21st minutes to give his team a 2-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Cuncolim showed resilience and pulled a goal back through Birgesh Shelke in the 38th minute. However, Navelim responded swiftly with Prestly Gomes restoring the two-goal advantage just a minute later, followed by Rehan Sayyed sealing the win with a goal in the 44th minute.
Cuncolim’s late surge was thwarted by Navelim goalkeeper Selvin Gomes, who made crucial saves to preserve his team’s lead and secure their place in the semifinals.
